October earned six nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards including Best Supporting Actress for Rao and Best Actor Critics for Dhawan.

Danish "Dan" Walia (Varun Dhawan) is a hotel management trainee working for an internship course in Delhi. A man of careless attitude, Dan does not like his job due to its low-class errands and has strained relations with most of his co-workers and seniors; a stark contrast with his co-worker Shiuli (Banita Sandhu). On New Year's Eve, Shiuli and the other interns party at the hotel's terrace, with Dan nowhere to be seen. She accidentally falls from the third floor of the hotel. Critically injured, Shiuli is admitted to the hospital, and goes into a comatose state. When Dan learns about Shiuli's accident, he visits her. Sympathizing with her condition, he begins visiting her regularly and develops an emotional attachment towards her when he learns that her last three words before the accident were “Where is Dan?”. Due to his frequent visits to the hospital, Dan's professional life suffers and he is fired. As months pass by, Shiuli starts to recover, upon which her mother asks Dan to leave them for he has to focus on his own career and life. Dan is recruited at a different hotel in Kullu where he becomes a manager; however, unable to take his mind off Shiuli, he returns to her. When Shiuli is discharged and taken home, Dan continues taking care of her. He enquires why she had wondered about him before her accident, to which she tries saying his name. One night, Shiuli has a seizure; her lungs collapse and she dies. A grief-stricken Dan bids goodbye to Shiuli's family. Several months later, he completes his diploma from the same hotel where he was fired from, and begins to work there as a chef. One day, Dan notices several missed calls from Shiuli's mother, and comes to know that her family is moving to Trichi. Dan learns that Shiuli always waited for October, so to collect the small white shiuli flowers which she was fond of. Dan takes from her home the small tree under which the white flowers bloomed, a sign of his unconditional and unsaid love for Shiuli.
